Shadow Box Card featuring Magical Day Stamp Set and Magical Day Framelits Dies

Welcome to my blog. Today I have combined two of my favourite things - shadow box cards and the Magical Day Stamp Set from Stampin' Up!. This stamp set, matching Framelits dies and
Myths & Magic Specialty Designer Series Paper have been retired from 31 May 2018, so make sure you grab yours from my online store today!

The flattened card measures 6 inches x 5 1/2 inches and on display 5 inches x 5 1/2 inches x 1 inch.

Start with 2 A4 sheets of Night of Navy cardstock (106577) cut as per diagram below.

In summary, you end up with:
  • one piece measuring 6 inches x 5 1/2 inches, scored 1/2 inch from either end with a 3/4 inch bordered frame cut from between score lines,
  • one piece measuring 7 inches x 5 1/2 inches, scored 1 inch from either end with a 1/2 inch bordered frame cut from between score lines and
  • one piece measuring 6 3/4 inches x 5 1/2 inches, scored 7/8 inch from either end (no frame).
Fold score lines to 90 degrees to form sides of box and test assemble (do not stick anything down at this stage). Make sure the piece with the smaller frame sits snuggly inside the base and the piece with the larger frame fits nicely over everything. Set aside.

Stamp the dragon with flame, knight and wizard from the stamp set on white cardstock, colour and cut using the Framelits dies and your Big Shot (or cut by hand).

Here I have used Stampin' Blends (which I absolutely love!):
  • Light and Dark Bermuda Bay for dragon and shield,
  • Light and Dark Smokey Slate or knights armour
  • Ivory for all skin tones
  • Light and Dark Daffodil Delight for knights sword and plume
  • Dark Night of Navy for wizards robes
  • Light and Dark Pumpkin Pie for flame
I have left the wizards beard uncoloured and added a touch of Clear Wink Of Stella Glitter to the wizard and dragon for sparkle. Set aside.

Cut two pieces of grey cardstock to 4 1/2 inches x 4 1/2 inches and 2 1/2 inches x 4 1/2 inches and run thru your Big Shot with the Brick Wall Embossing Folder. Test assemble to confirm the required height of your "castle walls". Trim as appropriate. Hint: trim brick paper by hand and cut along the "grout" to give an authentic brick wall appearance. Here I trimmed the larger piece to 4 courses of bricks and the smaller piece to 3 courses of bricks.

Start decorating card from the back. Attack brick wall, dragon and flame. Here I have also added stars cut from Iridescent Glimmer paper using the dies provided in the set. Always test assemble as you go.

Fix smaller brick piece to reverse of middle frame (facing outward) and perch knight in position on top. Here I've used some clear acetate to secure him in positon.

Fix wizard to front frame. Used small dabs of glue on the end of his beard, hat and bottom of robe to attach to side and bottom of frame.

Test assemble one last time and position more stars on the middle layer, magically hovering above the wizards hand. Add sentiment to front frame if desired.

Now to assemble! I find the secret to successful shadow box cards is to use slower drying liquid glue (I actually used glue sticks for this) that gives you time to adjust alignment before drying.

Attach middle frame to base. Add glue to side flaps of middle frame and position inside base piece. Firm down sides and immediately fold flat to let sides find their correct alignment.

Repeat process with top frame. Apply glue to back of side flaps. Position over the top of the base piece and firm down (it may be easier to attach one side at a time). Make sure the back edges of the top frame line up with the back of the base, This leaves a slight gap along the inside front of the card and helps it fold flat.

Again gently fold flat immediately to allow card to find its correct alignment.

You can add a piece of white cardstock to the back of this card as room for writing personal message.

Finished! Well Done!

This design is so versatile - limited only by your imagination. Once you've perfected the base card the possibilities are endless.

Remember if you love the Magical Day Stamp Set and Magical Mates Framelits they are currently while stocks last and will be retired on 31 May 2018. Act today to secure yours before it's too late.

Reverse gate fold card featuring the Holly Jolly Christmas Bundle from Stampin Up!

Hello and welcome to my blog. Today I feature a reverse gate fold card using the adorable Holly Jolly Christmas Bundle and Night Before Christmas designer series paper. I like the reverse gate fold card as it highlights the central panel allowing the image to really pop out when on display. With normal orientation gate cards the central image is hidden behind the folds. The Holly Jolly Christmas Bundle is wonderful. Santa has so much personality and the other image match perfectly. See the link to my online store at the end of this blog to purchase this bundle and the other products featured in my blogs. Z-fold card featuring Wonderful Romance Bundle from Stampin Up!

Hello and welcome to my blog. Today I feature the beautiful Wonderful Romance Bundle with a lovely z-fold card in Petal Pink. To make this card cut a piece of Petal Pink cardstock 11 5/8" x 6". Score at 3 7/8" and 7 3/4" along the long edge. Mark one 6" edge at 3 1/2" and cut from the opposite top corner to this mark to create angle. See diagram below: Using a lead pencil draw a light line 1 5/8" from angle. This will be your guide for die cutting the decorative edge. Using the guide line run the leaf edge die thru your Bigshot, starting at narrow edge. Carefully align the beginning of the die with the end of the previous cut to avoid doubling up. Remove the small cut outs. Card should look like this. Cut 3 pieces of matching paper measuring 3 3/4" wide and as high as the highest point of each of the three panels of your card. Here my three panels are 2 5/8" x 3 3/4", 3 1/2" x 3 3/4" and 4 1/4...
